Well, heck my friends. This newborn session with Baby Banks will forever go down in history as one of my absolute favorites. I may be a bit biased (only a very small bit though- I mean, just look at them) because Baby Banks’ mom and dad are two of my very best friends. AND he was the first baby I ever witnessed come into the world. Yes, you heard me right. I actually got to be there for his birth, and man on man, that was special. You better believe I cried some major tears. Fast forward one month, we hopped on over to the beautiful Honey Studio in Northeast Minneapolis to capture some sweet memories of this little guy while he’s still little.
All along, mama Mads wanted their photos to take place in a photo studio. While they have an absolutely adorable home with the sweetest nursery, she wanted their session to be easy. And in a world where everything changed overnight, easy seemed like the perfect idea to me.
Imagine you are a few weeks into parenting for the first time (or maybe you don’t have to imagine it, maybe you are living it right now)- you are getting less sleep than ever before, you hardly have time to eat or shower, and you’re just trying to keep another human alive. The last thing you are probably going to want to do is clean the house. I’m not sure about you, but I hardly want to do that now myself.
This is why I offer Studio Newborn sessions. Because we chose to go to a studio, our brand new mom and dad didn’t have to waste one moment of their precious energy making sure that their house was put together. All they had to do was get themselves and Banks ready to go, hop into the car, and make their way over! Zero cleaning, tiding, or organizing necessary. Talk about easy peasy lemon squeezy!!
If you’ve never heard a photographer use the words “natural light” before, you’ve probably never met one. Naturally lit and aesthetically pleasing (yet simple) spaces lend themselves so well to beautiful photographs. Being that mama Mads is also a photographer, this is one she knows all too well. While you may have one or two spots with awesome natural light in your home, those spaces may not be the ones that are also the prettiest spots in your home.
Studios are set up in a way that they will be beautifully lit during most daylight hours AND each styling detail has been carefully thought out to provide the perfect space for your newborn photos! Natural light paired with simple backgrounds are sure to make that sweet babe’s little ears, wrist rolls, and tiny toes stand out.
My point in all this is not to discourage you from using your home for those first photos of the little person that made you a mom and dad. Instead I am using this chance to shed some light (pun intended) on another option that could put some ease into the wild world that is becoming first time parents.
